NFA Transfers
As an FFL/SOT, Detroit Armament is equipped to handle NFA item transfers.
NFA (National Firearms Act) Items include silencers/suppressors, short barreled shotguns, short barreled rifles, “Any Other Weapon”, et cetera. If you’re looking for information on transferring a non-NFA firearm, that can be found on the “Firearm Transfers” page: Link
How It Works
If you’re already familiar with the NFA process, then you know the drill: pick out what you want to buy (either online or directly from Detroit Armament) and place the order!
Your first NFA transfer via eForm 4 will require some setup beforehand. Click Here to see a detailed walkthrough.
After placing the order for your NFA item, make sure you have the following ready:
-
ATF eForms Username and PIN
Record this in a secure and quickly-accessible place, like a piece of paper in your wallet, or a password-protected file in your notes app. If you lose this, the form can't be submitted. Don't be the guy who has to take 20 minutes to scroll their email looking for it. Write it down!
-
Passport-Style Digital Photograph
Stand in front of a plain white wall and take a selfie. No hat unless religious - there may be a discount for the first Pastafarian to submit a photo to ATF with a colander headdress. Email your photo to [email protected] (if you've already sent this once, you don't have to do it again)
-
Fingerprints
If you are using physical ink fingerprint cards, leave them at home, you’ll be given instructions on how to send them in after the eForm 4 is submitted. If you are using EFT prints, email the file to [email protected] (if you have already sent this once, you don’t have to send it again)
-
Extra Work for Trust Users
(ONLY if you are using a Trust) You will need to provide an ATF Responsible Persons Questionnaire (RPQ) for every member of the trust. Once your NFA item has arrived, you will be given the information required for filling out the RPQ.
When you have all of these ready, and your NFA item has arrived, set up an appointment with Detroit Armament for eForm 4 submission!
After Approval
Once your Form 4 has been approved, you will receive a notification from ATF. At this point, you can schedule an appointment to pick up your NFA item. A standard firearm transfer form will need to be filled out, and you must bring ID.
Prefer SilencerShop?
Detroit Armament is a SilencerShop Powered dealer! Although it can be faster and cheaper to perform the transfer without SilencerShop, some still prefer to use that system. If you wish to use SilencerShop’s services via Detroit Armament, use this link when making your purchase to facilitate that. No transfer fees are paid to Detroit Armament for a SilencerShop order.
Muzzle Device Installation
For suppressors purchased through Detroit Armament, free installation is included for up to three muzzle devices per suppressor. There is a small fee for additional installations, as well as for installations related to a suppressor purchased elsewhere. The customer must provide the muzzle devices being installed. No Pin & Welds.
Detroit Armament is an Accu-Washer dealer, and can perform muzzle device installation using Accu-Washers instead of standard shims. This avoids the possibility of tolerance stacking since it uses a single shim of precise thickness instead of several thin ones. Muzzle devices can be installed with an Accu-Washer instead of regular shims for improved consistency and confidence.
Suppressor Alignment Service
Suppressor alignment rods in the sizes of .22, .30, 6.5mm, 9mm, and .45 are available for use. It is free to have your alignment checked for any suppressor purchased from or transferred through me. For suppressors purchased elsewhere, there is a small fee per firearm per check. Alignment rods cost $60-80 elsewhere, and are typically a one-time need, so the savings are considerable!

No. Fingerprints have to be submitted with every NFA form submission.
Yes, absolutely.
Side Note: A discount might be offered to the first follower of the Pastafarian religion that successfully receives an approved tax stamp, for an eForm 4 submitted via Detroit Armament, that included a photo of the individual wearing typical Pastafarian head covering.
Yes. Use the FBI’s “Voluntary Appeal File” program to obtain a Unique Personal Identification Number (UPIN) before submitting. Ensure both your UPIN and Social Security Number is provided for the eForm 4 submission.
No, there is no reason to create or provide a physical photo. Physical photos can not be submitted. Text or email your photo to Detroit Armament so it may be attached to your eForm submission.
Paying the $200 tax stamp is the second-to-last stage of the eForm 4 submission.
Please reach out within 30 days of delivery to make arrangements for storage. Storage fees for suppressors with CONFIRMED prior arrangements are $10/month, storage fees for other NFA types with CONFIRMED prior arrangements are $20/month.
NFA items without prior arrangements, that are not picked up within 30 days of delivery, or that exceed the arranged storage period by 30 days, are considered abandoned and become the property of Detroit Armament, LLC.
Tip: Individuals who communicate in a timely manner will be accommodated, individuals who plan to “ask forgiveness instead of permission” will not.
FAQs (After Submitting)
This is normal. At this time, ATF does not allow the buyer to view the submission in their eForms account at any point.
ATF sends a confirmation email from [email protected] to the email address associated with your eForms account immediately upon submission. If you don’t see it, check your spam folder. This email will also have a copy of the submitted form that you can review.
ATF’s eForms website will send an automated email to the email address connected to your eForms account. Make sure you have whitelisted [email protected] so this email does not go to spam. If you haven’t gotten an approval email, this most likely means your form is still pending.
For just one submission, there’s not much you can do. Over the past few years, there have been several methods to get help or advocacy regarding a “stalled” eForms submission. However, once these options become common advice on internet forums, ATF has been consistently quick to shut down those methods.
If you are experiencing multiple submissions with a longer-than-expected wait time, consider obtaining a UPIN via the FBI’s Voluntary Appeal File program.
ATF will refund the $200 to the payment method used to pay for the form.
Please reach out no later than 30 days post-approval to make arrangements for storage. Storage fees for suppressors with CONFIRMED prior arrangements are $10/month, storage fees for other NFA types with CONFIRMED prior arrangements are $20/month.
NFA items without prior arrangements, that are not picked up within 30 days of approval, or that exceed the arranged storage period by 30 days, are considered abandoned, will have the Form 4 approval withdrawn, and become the property of Detroit Armament, LLC.
Tip: Individuals who communicate in a timely manner will be accommodated, individuals who plan to “ask forgiveness instead of permission” will not.
