Just picked up some firearms from James today, and I am very happy with my purchases. James the owner is very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. James treats you with respect and listens to your needs and wants... read more as a buyer. I went and spoke with James and had an idea of what I was looking for, and with his vast knowledge of the industry he was able to help me make more informed decisions. Thank you for being patient with me and making the entire process a breeze. I will be recommending everyone I know to use Detroit Armament for their firearm needs.
October 27, 2023James is a 10/10 guy and I will gladly go to him for all of my future purchases/transfers. He does his best to take care of you whenever possible, and as far as I know, cannot be beat on price.... read more As an extra benefit, you get to pet cats while you fill out your 4473.

I sometimes don't write reviews to places I've been going to for awhile. I realize now that these places I frequent because of the experience, and I feel others should have that same experience. Detroit Armament is one... read more of those places. I've been going to James at Detroit Armament since 2020 so consider this a long form review. Just like you, I looked up places around me that did transfers, especially for NFA, and Detroit Armament popped up. I was initially attracted to the price of transfers and drove from the west side to transfer a suppressor. 4 years later, I'm still impressed by James' professionalism and technical knowledge regarding firearms, state and federal rules and regs, as well as NFA items. Furthermore, with regards to NFA items, back in 2020, Detroit Armament was able to meet me up at a local range to try my suppressor while waiting for approval and was able to allow me to test fit my firearm to my suppressor using rods to ensure there would be no baffle strike. Now, Detroit Armament even offers a digital fingerprint service that is encrypted and available only to you, so that you can file electronic form 4s much easier! Consider this when making an FFL your home base! In 2021, James at Detroit Armament was able to take my father and my good friend for a concealed pistol license class. I appreciated the more one-on one instruction that I wish that I myself had taken. My dad is older and more vulnerable to balance issues, which is what his concern was about. James even helped my father pick out a firearm that he could use well with his arthritis and helped us settle on a Performance Center Smith and Wesson .380 EZ. The shooting portion of the class involved shooting off hand, off balance, from behind cover, awkward positions, and even a demonstration of the 21-foot rule. The classroom portion was engaging and allowed for questions because of the smaller class size and went over things not mentioned in traditional gun range CPL classes. I highly recommend his classes if you wish to improve your technique or get your loved ones trained. For the last four years, James has been an excellent resource for me. Not only that, but he's a Midwesterner at heart and will work with you to get a deal on a firearm that you want or an NFA item. For example, I had an interest in a Browning High-Power to complement the CETME I just purchased. Speaking with James at Detroit Armament, he was able to give me the pros and cons of the various price points, from the cheaper Turkish Girsan MCP35, the mid-range Springfield SA35, and the newer High Power from FN Herstal. James steered me towards the MCP35 because he was able to work with me on the price an felt the features for the price point were optimal, but after some thought I went with the SA35. James was even able to get me a Gear up package for the same price as standard single mag SA35! That's the kind of treatment you get from this company as a customer. Now as a manufacturer, Detroit Armament offers its unique lowers for sale, such as a MK18 Crane lower, its famous T91 lower, and other historically significant builds. Over the years I have several that are in the process of being built. If there's a certain marking you want, I'd contact him for his list or if you can get a specific model for details. Selling firearms through him is also an option that one could take advantage of. He is verified on Gunbroker and can be commissioned to sell firearms you see as an opportunity. Detroit Armament is not just storefront for firearms, but also an educational center for training, certification for CPL classes, and a staunch supporter of mental health advocacy. I always look forward to visiting the store and hope to do so for the foreseeable future. I encourage you do the same!
July 30, 2024James has been great for my regular transfer and NFA transfer. He made the process simple, clear, and easy. I am glad I went with him instead of a different place because James is very knowledgeable of the law and... read more the NFA transfer process. I would recommend him to anyone.
